Washington ready to see new home
Winter Park (Fla.) linebacker James Washington gave a verbal commitment to the Syracuse Orange at the end of June. This weekend will be his first trip to Syracuse to check out what they have to offer.
"I am110 percent excited to get up there. I think I will love it as my new home," Washington said. "I am looking forward to seeing how everything works around the campus, the team, what I'm going to get into next year and the community."
Even though the Orange missed a bowl Washington liked the season they had and thinks they will improve.
"I thought they did well I think we have a great chance next year too."
On Rivals.com Washington is listed at linebacker, but at Syracuse that looks like it will change. Washington spoke about the move.
"They want me to be an end that can stand up sometimes and move around in space. I like the move. I think it will give them even more of threat on defense with that position."
For Washington the recruiting process was not over for him after his commitment. Other schools continued to recruit him and have him visit their campus.
"After I committed to Syracuse, Iowa State, Florida International, Pittsburgh, Miami and Cincinnati came in. All of those schools offered except Miami.
The three star prospect took official visits to Florida International and Maryland.
What exactly were those other schools saying when it came to trying to talk Washington into switching?
"The other schools tried to say that they have better this and that than Syracuse."
On his visit this weekend Syracuse will have some prospects on campus that are un-committed. When he has an opportunity though Washington will try his best to help recruit.
"I would just tell them what I can about the program it's their decision I can only say so much."
CuseConfidential.com will follow up with Washington next week to see how his trip went.
