Garrick talks commitment
Ryan Murray
CuseConfidential.com First it was Ryan Norton and then it was Josh Manley now add in junior college defensive end Mark Garrick to the list of players who visited Syracuse this weekend and committed.
Since he committed today how long exactly had Syracuse been looking at him?
"Syracuse started showing me interest around my last football game," Garrick said. "The recruiting process has been going real good. I talk to them a lot, I call them, and I just went on a visit. I loved the visit to Syracuse."
Even though the visit was great it was the location that solid Garrick on the Orange.
"The fact that Syracuse is on the east coast because I am originally from South Carolina. I came to California to play ball, so I want to get back on the east coast for my family. "The most important factor for me was the fact that my family can get to see me play again."
Besides that there was another reason that the Orange will be his college destination.
"What put them over the top was the fact that I got a long with the coaches. The coaches treated me nice and they treated me like family. That is the kind of program that I want to go in. I love the fact that they are in the Big East and the great family feeling I got there."
Today was a great day for Garrick as he picked his future college, but the Orange coaches were also happy that he decided to pick Syracuse.
"They were really happy. All of the coaches were happy Coach Adkins, Coach Marrone, and Coach Shafer, they were all happy. They said they were waiting on me. "They were glad I did commit because they all said that they would love to coach a player like me."
For some junior college prospects they have three years to play two seasons and others have just two years for two seasons. Garrick falls with the second option.
"I will have two years to play two seasons. I am looking to make an impact quick."
Besides the Orange Garrick had a bunch of offers and another school was showing interest.
"I had offers from Nevada, Colorado State, Oregon State, and some other small schools. South Florida was showing interest, but they did not offer."
Will he visit any of those schools or is he set with the Orange?
"I am going to call the other schools and tell them that I committed to Syracuse. Since I committed to Syracuse my interest is just in Syracuse."
