Miller surprised by Badger offer
After watching 2010 quarterbacks Joe Boisture and Devin Gardner give verbal pledges to other universities early in the recruiting process, Bret Bielema and company have shifted their attention to a new prospect.
The new target: Jonny Miller of Denver (Colo.) Mullen. Miller, who holds an offer from New Mexico State, recently received unexpected news from the Badger coaching staff.
Saturday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with 6-foot-2, 205-pound dual-threat quarterback to discuss his newest offer.
The following is a question and answer segment with Miller.
Word is that you got any offer from Wisconsin. How did that go down?
Miller: Yes sir, I did. I actually hadn't talked to them at all. I was over at my friend's house and my mom called me up. She was really excited and told me I had just got an offer from Wisconsin. I was really surprised and excited. I rushed home real quick and called Coach Bielema. He asked me if I had finally received the offer in the mail. I was ecstatic about what had happened.
How did the staff find out about you?
Miller: It was the first time I had been in contact with them (Wisconsin). I had sent out my film to some schools. The letter talked about the staff's evaluation of my film and that after what they had seen they would like to offer me a scholarship.
Do you have any ties to the University of Wisconsin?
Miller: Nope. I don't have any ties to Wisconsin. I just sent my film and they liked me. They've offered a few players from my high school in the past. Basically I don't have any ties. I just talked to Coach Bielema and he's really excited about me. They liked my film and what I can do. That's how it happened.
Could you catch us up on your recruitment?
Miller: I have offers from New Mexico State and Wisconsin. A few other schools have pretty much told me offers are on the way. Those schools would be Syracuse and San Diego State. Wake Forest and Georgia has been really active as of late. Coach Mike Bobo of Georgia likes me a lot. I really think things are about to take off for me. I guess you should let the Wisconsin fans know I said, "Go Badgers".
Were you able to make it to any junior days?
Miller: I made it to a junior day at Colorado State. Other than that I've been on unofficial visit to Colorado.
From what I understand you come from a pretty prestigious high school in Colorado. Could you talk about that?
Miller: Yeah, Mullen High School is a prestigious program. You could say our coaches are the best in Colorado. The coaches really know how to develop players and get them to the next level. We've had about 45-50 kids go Division I. It's definitely a good program and has helped me get to the next level.
