SU is the dream school
Franklin Lakes (NJ) Ramapo kicker Ross Krautman was offered by Syracuse on Tuesday and it did not take him long to make up his mind. On Wednesday afternoon the Garden State product called Syracuse and told coaches he would be joining the 2010 recruiting class.
How did the offer come about?
"Actually the other night, Tuesday night I got an e-mail from Coach Casullo. He wrote me a nice e-mail saying that they would be offering me a full scholarship and for me to call them when I get the chance. I called them Wednesday and I spoke to him and the head coach," Krautman said. "It is a definitely a solid verbal. This is the school I definitely want to go to."
Krautman, 5-foot-8, 160 pounds knew that the Orange were the right school for him and his decision making process went pretty quick.
"That is the place I wanted to go. I sat down with my family all Tuesday night when I got the e-mail. I talked with my parents and my coach and they all said this is the right place for you and it is a great fit and I agreed because I love Syracuse itself. This has always been my dream school so I wanted to commit there."
The new Orange kicker was very familiar with the campus, but there was one item on campus that really sealed the deal for Krautman. The chance to kick with no weather elements for half of a season was a clincher.
"The Carrier Dome itself is a kickers dream to kick in that dome. I mean it is unbelievable, when you go in there the crowd is crazy. I remember going to my brothers games when I was little and just watching him kick in the Carrier Dome was just unbelievable and it is a dream for most kickers."
He does know that there are other great opportunities that come with the scholarship offer.
"The academics are always great there. It is always a great school for education and I am fortunate enough to get a full ride there."
Both aspects of the scholarship have Krautman excited about what he will be doing in the near future with academics and football.
"Football wise I am looking forward to playing in the Carrier Dome. Academic wise it is one of the topic academic schools in the country and it will be a good experience."
In high school Krautman will handle all of the kicking duties for his team, but once he gets to the next level that will change. He knows one position he will not have to concentrate on. Even though he knows he will not have to handle all of the kicking he does not exactly know what he will start out doing.
"It has not been decided yet, but I will not be punting when I go to college. I could punt though and I definitely want to be the back up punter. I am punting for my high school team next season. We have not spoke about the situation, but the coach told me I do have a 100 percent chance to start all four years. I am obviously going to have to compete for the job, but I do have a chance to start four years."
Syracuse has been picking up a lot commitments as of late and they are all excited to join the Orange and show the fans what they can do. Krautman is no different as he is ready to play and prove himself on and off of the field.
"I am a positive player I am not just a kicker I am a team player. It is always team first before kicking. On and off the field I am going I am going to show a positive attitude. I have a great personality, character, and whatever it takes to help the team win games."
