Smith happy about SU offer
Brooklyn (N.Y.) Xaverian running back Laray Smith has held a Connecticut offer for awhile, but now that offer has been joined by another Big East program.
"Syracuse has offered me. They offered about a month ago. I was pretty happy because I like the school a lot. I am actually getting ready to take a visit there for their junior day in April."
Smith, 6-foot-1, 170 pounds knows about what the Orange can offer him and one side of the academics really sticks out at this point.
"Well, I think Syracuse is a great school. I want to major in communications when I go to school and they have the best program for that out of all colleges."
He is also well aware of Syracuse leaving the Big East for the ACC.
"I know they have been rebuilding and building each year. Syracuse is also getting ready to go to the ACC and that is a bigger league."
When it comes down to picking a school Smith will have his family in his ear trying to tell him where to go for sure. There are also three members of the Syracuse football team that will be trying to get him to pick the Orange.
"I know Brandon Reddish and my friends Alvin Cornelius and Wayne Morgan picked Syracuse this past signing day," Smith said. "They have kind of sort of tried to recruit me they tell me that I should go there. When I go up there for the junior day I will probably spend time with them."
With three extra recruiters on the case John Anselmo's job might be a little easier. Even with a little added help Anselmo has established a solid relationship with Smith.
"Coach Anselmo is recruiting me. He is a great guy and we talk all the time and he shows a lot of interest in me."
If Smith does pick Syracuse he thinks he will be able to add another dimension to their backfield.
"The kind of running back I am is a speed guy and a playmaker. Watching their past games I do not think they have backs with the same kind of speed as me."
Outside of Syracuse and Connecticut there are a few other schools looking at the Empire State product as well.
"Connecticut has offered me and Buffalo is about to. I have also been talking with Arizona State and Penn State."
As far as visits go a Syracuse trip has been scheduled and a couple more as well.
"I just went to the Connecticut's junior day on Saturday. I am going to go to Temple and Penn State soon."
Despite new offers and interest from other schools there is no hurry from the prospect when it comes to a decision.
"I will not commit anytime soon. I will probably pick my school at the end of my senior season."
