Bullough closes in on a decision
This spring Riley Bullough of Traverse City Saint Francis High has been busy visiting many of the schools that are actively recruiting him. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the linebacker/safety recruit and got the latest news on his recruitment.
Bullough is one of the top players in the State of Michigan for the class of 2012. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect has a solid list of scholarship offers that includes Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin and Cincinnati to name a few. He is also being recruited by Notre Dame and UCLA. SpartanMag.com asked Bullough about the time he has spent visiting schools this spring and learning about the various programs.
"I think the best part is being able to create relationships at all the different places," he said. "I have met and talked with so many different coaches at each college. I have also been able to sit down and talk with some of the players at those colleges. Every place I have been is different and unique in its own way. I think that is a main reason why the recruiting process is so exciting."
As many know, Bullough is very familiar with Michigan State University and the Spartan program itself. Three generations of Bullough's have made a big impact at Michigan State University on the football field. We asked him what he is looking for when it comes to the Spartan program and what are some of the aspects he is focusing on when it comes to the Green and White?
"One big thing I try to do when I visit Michigan State is picture myself there and what it would be like playing in college with my brother," Bullough said. "I just try and take in everything around me. We have so much family tradition at Michigan State. It would be special to go to a college where everyone knows my name."
Bullough has played with his brother in the past. In 2009 Riley and Max were key members of a Saint Francis Gladiator team that won a state championship. Michigan State fans would certainly like to see the brothers hook in college and win another championship. The last time a pair of Bullough brothers was at Michigan State the Spartans won a Rose Bowl and tied for another Big Ten title.
One thing you can be sure of when it comes to Bullough making his decision is that there will not be a lot of fanfare. A phone call to the head coach and some thanks to the other schools is likley all that will be happen. The pulling hats or t-shirts out of a bag is not his style. We asked him about when he plans to make his selection.
"No, I won't be doing anything like that," he said. "I think I am going make my decision before the summer. I will probably do it in late May or early June."
Bullough went on inform us that he will be back in East Lansing this weekend with his family to watch the Green and White Game. Surely he will be using his time in Spartan Stadium to see if he can envision himself running out of the same tunnel many of his family have over the last 5 decades.
