Daniel Beilinson has two on top
Cary (N.C.) Panther Creek tight end Daniel Beilinson admits he has felt close to pulling trigger, but has refrained from making a decision so far. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound standout is being recruited by the Pack's defensive coordinator Mike Archer, who always gets the junior's trigger finger a little itchy.
"He's a great guy, I love talking to him," Beilinson said after an impressive performance at the Shrine Bowl Combine in Williamston, N.C. "He always gets me real excited about NC State. I have to take my time because right after I talk to one of those coaches, I want to make decision then and there. But I know that's a spur of the moment thing so I'm waiting it out a little bit longer."
The well-rounded big man recorded the fourth-fastest 40-yard dash timing for the tight end and offensive line position group, clocking the run in 5.02 seconds on a slow track. He also recorded his group's fastest time in the shuttle, running it in 4.4 seconds, and longest broad jump after leaping nine feet. In addition, he tallied 12 repetitions on the bench press at 185 pounds. However, he still was not satisfied with the results.
"I thought I had a pretty solid performance today besides the 40, I felt like I just couldn't get the traction right," he said. "Everything else was alright. Bench was almost as good as I wanted it to be and I seemed to perform well in the agility."
The two-sport star also suits up for his basketball team in the winter and mentioned that it was tough to keep his weight up during hoops season. He succeeded, though, staying around 220 pounds, thanks to weekend workouts and forcing himself to eat. Since the season ended, he has increased to six workouts per week, attempting to increase his strength and speed.
"I've gained ten pounds since basketball season," he reported. "My weight room numbers have gone up a tremendous amount the past two months because I had basketball, which didn't really allow me to work out as much as I wanted to. The past two months is actually when I gained my ten pounds."
Beilinson is up to eight offers on the recruiting trail after recording 37 catches for 553 yards and two scores as a junior. Duke, NC State, Vanderbilt, Arizona State, ECU, Indiana and Wake Forest have offered while the junior also mentioned that Miami said they will offer, it just hasn't become official yet.
Several programs have dropped by Panther Creek in the past week to see the tight end, as well. Last Monday featured ECU and Auburn while NC State and North Carolina swung through on Tuesday. Duke and Wake Forest followed the next day.
"My favorites are probably between Duke and State right now, not in that order," he said. "Recently, Wake Forest and Miami offered so I'll be looking into them more."
In addition to the knockout recruiting job that Archer is doing, State has a few other advantages in the running for Beilinson's services. For one, the youngster likes the fact that current tight end George Bryan is a two-time All-ACC honoree and it's easy to draw parallels between the two.
"That's absolutely great," he said. "It shows they can coach their tight ends very well and that will probably play a factor in my decision.
"I also have a brother in his junior year [at State]. I go up occasionally, it's not as often as one would probably think. He comes home a lot more than [I get to State] but he's always yelling, "Go pack," trying to get me to go to NC State."
