Interest rising in Tejada

It only took one viewing of Jacksonville (Fla.) defensive end Max Tejada to net his first scholarship offer. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle said Colorado State linebackers coach Bernard Clark was at a spring practice last month and offered soon after.

"The one practice he went to (Clark) said he was impressed with my hand work and said kids at my age don't use that," said Tejada. "He said he was impressed with how aggressive I was and liked me off-the-bat."

While Colorado State remains Tejada's only scholarship offer thus far, there is a lot of new interest in the Bolles High School standout. Tejada said he has been in touch with Florida Atlantic, Central Florida, West Virginia and Louisville over the past month with Louisville calling more than the others. Most of them have the same idea about Tejada.

"They like what they have seen and there were a couple coaches at my spring game," he said. "They all want me to get to their camps and keep in touch via email and facebook."

This weekend the future Sports Management Major said he was in Coral Gables for the Miami Camp and liked what he saw.

"Just this past weekend, I hit the Miami Camp," he said. "I felt like I did really well out thee. The coaches like what they saw. No offer, but we are going to keep in touch. I really liked the campus, so they jumped up on my list. I haven't been anywhere else, so everything is still open as far as where I want to go."

Tejada said he plans to sit down with his parents this week to figure out what other schools they will be able to visit this summer and into next season. Until then, he said he is working hard at his team's off-season workouts and seeing some results.

"Our team has workouts Monday through Friday from 7:30-9:30 all summer," said Tejada. "We do weightlifting and running. I am getting a lot stronger and I think my speed is a lot faster compared to where it was a year or two ago and everything is looking pretty good right now."
