Recruiting heats up for Charles; likes Tech
DESTREHAN-You have to stop the run if you want to be a good defense.
How do you do that? You get a big man to plug up the middle of the line of scrimmage.
Louisiana Tech hopes Marrick Charles could be that guy.
The 6-3, 295-pound defensive tackle out of Destrehan High School is a three-star prospect according to the latest Rivals.com rankings. The nation's 44th-best defensive tackle according to Rivals.com, Charles has scholarship offers on the table thus far from Arkansas, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Tennessee.
"I haven't talked with my head coach lately but I know a lot of schools have been calling me on the phone," Charles said. "So I guess that you could say things are starting to heat up a little bit in terms of my recruiting process. A lot of schools are showing that they care and they are showing a lot of interest in me.
"Right now I may be going to a couple of schools this summer and checking them out at their summer camps. I want to camp at Tech and I also want to make it to the offensive line/defensive line camp at Tennessee."
Being recruited to Ruston by assistant coach Stan Eggen, Charles said that he is quickly becoming very fond of the Bulldogs and looks forward to seeing what they are all about at some point during his recruiting process.
"I feel like the coaching staff and myself are starting to get a good vibe with each other," Charles said. "Particularly me and Coach Eggen. I am looking forward to making an official visit there once I get back in school this fall. The Tech coaches don't mess around with you. They believe that I can come in and I have the chance to be a difference maker. They want me on their defensive line and plug the hole inside at tackle.
"In terms of a decision timeline I think that I am going to wait until after my senior football season is over. I want to enjoy my last football year at Destrehan. But once that is over I will make my decision."
