Kilfoy staying patient
Davenport native Tim Kilfoy put up some good numbers his junior year, but none more impressive than his eight interceptions, which led Iowa's Class 4A in 2010. What makes the accomplishment stand out even more for the 6-foot-1, 189-pound safety is the fact that all of his picks came in the first half of the season before teams started staying away from his side of the field.
"I had eight interceptions through the first four games and then I actually didn't get one the rest of the season," said Kilfoy, who led Assumption High School to a 7-3 record.
"The first game I ended up with four, the second game I had two, and then I had one in the third game and one in the fourth game," he continued. "From then on, it seemed like nothing really came my way, but I was happy with that if it meant taking away part of their offense."
That type of production has led to college interest from Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and Western Illinois, among others. In the spring, South Dakota was the first school to extend a scholarship offer and Kilfoy hit the camp circuit this summer in hopes of landing more.
