Taraschke discusses choice
Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from offensive tacke Adam Taraschke within the past hour. The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder announced his decision while still on campus in Blacksburg.
"I committed about 30 minutes ago, we're still on campus right now," he said. "It was an awesome visit. We walked around with the academic people, met with Coach Newsome and Coach Foster showed us the stadium. We walked through the tunnel."
Following the trip, Taraschke gave his pledge to the staff.
"I told Coach Foster that was I pretty much sold coming to the visit, I came up so my mom could see it and she loves it," he said. "I told them and they were excited. I got to go tell Coach Beamer then and he talked to me for a bit saying they are excited and think I could be a good player."
For Taraschke, many factors played into his selection.
"Obviously the football team is great, I love the campus feel and I love the relationships I have with Coach Foster, Newsome and Coach Beamer, he's a great guy," he said. "It's a great program and since Coach Foster has been recruiting me, I've gotten along with him from the first day I talked to him."
In addition, playing offensive line for Tech was critical as well since Taraschke sees the chance for playing time.
"The way everything is working, they are losing four seniors and if the timing is right, I'll be able to come in and compete for a starting position, that's a big deal," he said. "They have two other commits and all of them are approximately the same size as me, lean guys, athletic guys. They don't have many fat guys, all of them are lean athletic people and I fit in with that group."
Overall Taraschke is thrilled.
"I'm just excited to be a Hokie."
So, one other factor is when will he enroll?
"Greyshirting is probably the worst case scenario, but that would give me time to lift," he said. "Most likely I'll be enrolling in the summer is what they are saying."
