Hesse discusses decision

Waukon linebacker Parker Hesse has been thinking about committing to the Iowa Hawkeyes for a couple of weeks now and one more visit to campus on Monday finally sealed the deal. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Hesse talks about his decision, what stood out about the Hawkeyes, where he projects in college, and much more.

Q: Why did you end up picking Iowa?

HESSE: I really like the school first of all. They have so many programs and opportunities. You can really do whatever you want and what you set your heart on. Iowa City is a great place obviously. The football program has a lot of tradition. They have a great coaching staff and great players in the program now. I think it is a good place for me to go and be successful.

Q: When did you know Iowa was the place for you?

HESSE: I have known for a couple of weeks about the football program. I've known about the football program from visiting games and camps but I hadn't really seen the campus prior to yesterday. Once I went down there and saw the stuff, I knew that it was on the same level as the football program and knew it was the place for me.

A two-star prospect, Hesse is commitment No. 17 for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2014.

As a senior, he started on both sides of the ball for Waukon, leading the team to an 11-2 record and an appearance in the Class 2A state championship game.

Defensively, Hesse finished the season with 59 tackles, 10 TFL, and two interceptions. On offense, as a quarterback, he threw for 1,439 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed for 1,273 yards and had 23 touchdowns on the ground.
