Return of Taj

Much of the focus around the Syracuse Orange this off season has been devoted to which players will be leaving Syracuse. Some has been given to the new players arriving. A great deal has been given to the one player that will be on the sideline for the season because of injury: Delone Carter.

But while it's true that the Orange will be losing a playmaker in Carter, many have overlooked an offensive weapon that they will be gaining. No, it's not a five-star recruit. It's a player who has been there all the while, battling and overcoming injury to step back into the spotlight.

It's Taj Smith.


Smith started off last season as promising as any Orange player and solidified himself as the explosive playmaker in the Orange group of receivers. He quickly became one of Perry Patterson's favorite targets and defenses learned to devote special attention to him.

At 6-foot-1 and 188 pounds, Smith does not immediately jump out at defenders as the player to watch out for. But as soon as he has a football in his hands, it becomes apparent how dangerous he can be.
