Moreau is hoping for a strong senior season

Western high school has never been a pipeline for star athletes and Division-1 prospects. Fabian Moreau, the 5-foot-11, 185 pound running back, is trying to change all that. Although Moreau isn't being recruited by the top schools in the country, he knows that he still has his senior year to show off his talents and feels that his game will separate himself from others in the state.

"My speed is something that will stand out to people. I recently was clocked at 4.38 in the 40-yard-dash. I am pretty fast and can be very elusive. I also have very good hands and am smooth while catching the ball out of the backfield. One thing I pride myself on is turning small plays into big ones. There is nothing better than taking a short-yardage play a long way for a touchdown."

Moreau is fast, elusive, and shifty. That sounds a lot like the Heisman finalist from Oregon, who he models his game after.

"My game is very similar to Oregon's LaMichael James. He is a playmaker, plain and simple. I love how hard he plays and never quits on a play. He has very quick feet and is really elusive. We are definitely similar in that sense. Our offense is very similar to Oregon's, so hopefully people will see the similarities this year."

With his senior season remaining, Moreau has a few individual goals, but has one bigger goal for his team.

"I want to have a successful season and run for at least 1,000 yards this year. As long as I improve as a player, it will be a solid season. Most importantly I want our team to improve from last season's 5 and 5 record. We made it to the playoffs last year, but lost in the first round. I really want our team to go deep this year and make a run at a title. It all starts with our battle against Miramar. If we can beat them, we will be ready for a run. They are very good and have a ton of great players, but I think we are good enough to win that game and win the rest of them as well."

Although his recruitment has yet to really pick up, Moreau knows what he is looking for in a college and has one school on top for his services.

"I am going to go to a place that offers good academics, a great atmosphere, a solid fan base, and a very strong coaching staff. The 4 schools that have offered me will give me everything that I am looking for in a school, but Oregon is the school at the top of my list. I really want them to offer me. I would like to take a visit out to Eugene at some point this year."

Moreau currently has four scholarship offers and discussed what he likes about some of these programs.

"I have offers from Western Michigan, Florida International, Western Illinois, and Bryant University. Western Kentucky is another school showing a lot of interest in me. These small schools are great because like me, they are underrated. They get some good talent at these schools and I think I could do well at these places. FIU and Western Michigan are recruiting me the hardest right now. FIU is great because it's close to home. They are on the rise and have a great coaching staff. Western Michigan's coaches are great as well. I feel like they really care about their players and I am really looking forward to getting to know them even more."

As a player that is truly appreciative to all the exposure he and his teammates get, Moreau was quick to mention another player to look out for this year in the Western high school offense.

"Jamal Dowels is someone to watch out for. He will play slot receiver for us this year. He is one of the quickest players I have ever seen. He has terrific hands and can really make people miss. He has big time potential. He is a great player, a great teammate, and a loves winning."

Moreau currently has a 3.4 GPA, got a 20 on the ACT, and will have no problems qualifying for school. He also would like to major in Sports Management when he gets to college.
