Wallace determined to produce

Jonathan Wallace always wanted a chance to play football at Auburn.

The quarterback from Central Phenix City High School (Phenix City, Ala.) got that opportunity on Monday, as Wallace received a long awaited offer from Auburn.

Once committed to Southern Miss, and most recently Central Florida, Wallace signed with the Tigers on Wednesday and is now ready to prove he belongs.

"Of course you want to prove people wrong, I just want to show people what I can do," Wallace said. "Everybody is coming to compete, talking isn't going to get it. I feel like I have something to prove and that's one of the things that describes me. I'm a competitor, I want to compete.

"The best players are going to play, but I'm going in to work. I didn't choose Auburn to just go and experience being there, I'm going determined to produce. I want to prove people wrong."

Wallace spoke with head coach Gene Chizik and offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler often over the last few days. It wasn't long before Wallace knew what his final decision would be.

"It finally came and I jumped on it, It was really something that my heart has desired for a long time," said Wallace. "It's something I wanted and I'm excited about the opportunity. I was really happy with going to Central Florida, I liked the situation there, but Auburn came in and offered so I really wanted to do it the right way."

Wallace said he didn't know for sure he would sign with Auburn until shortly before his signing ceremony at his high school. He knew where he was leaning, but making the right choice for his next four years isn't something he takes lightly.

"My mind was going crazy last night, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do," said Wallace. "I'm happy there were schools that wanted me, I was blessed with that choice to go to college. I felt like Auburn would be a great opportunity for me."

Wallace spoke to Loeffler again on Wednesday and is eager to build a relationship with his new coordinator. Wallace will visit Auburn on Sunday to get that process started.

"We've done a lot of talking in the last 48 hours," he said. "I feel really good about the expectations and what's coming up for this year."
