From the Road: Breaking them down

MORE: From the Road: Offensive prospects

Rivals.com recruiting analysts had the opportunity to scout some of the nation's top prospects in games this past weekend.

Rivals.com's Barry Every was able to get a good look at Florence (S.C.) West Florence defensive end Malliciah Goodman's performance against Sumter (S.C.) High.

Here are some rundowns on the top defensive and underclassmen they saw in person, listed alphabetically.

DT CAM COLWELL (6-4/245), Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Colwell had four tackles from his defensive tackle position in a 13-10 loss to Everett (Mass.) High. He also played offensive tackle.
STRENGTHS: Colwell uses his hands well, and on defense he works his way down the line and runs down plays. He is active on both offense and defense.
WEAKNESSES: Colwell has a good frame but needs to fill out a bit and needs to add lower body strength. He also plays too high at times. MIKE FARRELL

TE/LB TRAVIS DICKSON (6-3/235), Ocean Springs (Miss.) High
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Rushed for a second-half touchdown and played on the defensive side of the ball as well in a dominating win over Gulfport (Miss.) Harrison Central.
STRENGTHS: A strong, sturdy prospect. Showed good athleticism and physicality with the ball in his hands, pounding forward for a touchdown.
WEAKNESSES: Dickson's athleticism translates better to the offensive side of the ball than defense. He could be an H-back hybrid because he looks as if he can make an impact as a blocker or a receiver at either tight end or fullback. BARTON SIMMONS
QB DYLAN FAVRE (5-10/170), Bay St. Louis (Miss.) St. Stanislaus
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: 267 yards passing with two touchdowns and four interceptions in a 68-34 loss to D'Iberville (Miss.) High.
STRENGTHS: The nephew of Brett Favre has inherited his uncle's strong arm and fiery competitive attitude. He also has good mobility and athleticism, and he shows high intensity by playing on both sides of the ball, often going against D'Iberville's top receiver.
WEAKNESSES: Favre's height and size will be a major concern for high-level programs. He does not have the physical tools that colleges want. He also plays much like his uncle in that he makes off-balance throws and throws into tight spots, often paying for it with interceptions. B.S.
DE MALLICIAH GOODMAN (6-4/257), Florence (S.C.) West Florence
COMMITTED TO: Clemson
PERFORMANCE: Had four solo and two assisted tackles in 42-20 loss to Sumter (S.C.) High.
STRENGTHS: He has an excellent frame, which easily could hold another 20 pounds. He also has long arms and huge hands that will help in controlling the line of scrimmage. He has the mobility of a much smaller, athletic linebacker, which helps him catch plays from behind.
WEAKNESSES: He needs to do a better job keeping linemen from cutting him low at the point of attack. He could use more technique disengaging blockers, enabling him to chase more plays run away from him. BARRY EVERY
DT/G DYLAN HOLLEY (6-3/275), D'Iberville (Miss.) High School
2010 PROSPECT
COMMITTED TO: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Helped control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in a dominating win over Bay St. Louis (Miss.) St. Stanislaus.
STRENGTHS: Plays with good pad leverage and with high effort.
WEAKNESSES: Needs to get better and quicker with his hands and his feet. B.S.
DT NICK JAMES (6-4/305), Bay St. Louis (Miss.) St. Stanislaus
2012 PROSPECT
COMMITTED TO: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Was active and aggressive in a loss to D'Iberville (Miss.) High.
STRENGTHS: James has a great motor and works hard in pursuit, something that is rare in a youngster. He has terrific size and body structure and looks the part of a senior, not a freshman. He has good feet, is strong at the point of attack and has unbelievable upside.
WEAKNESSES: Just needs to improve on the mental side of the game making his reads quicker, diagnosing plays and finding the ball. B.S.
RB ANTHONY KNIGHT (6-0/195), Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Knight played running back in a 13-10 loss to Everett (Mass.) High.
STRENGTHS: Knight has good size for a junior running back and plays a tough, hard-nosed brand of football. He also showed good hands out of the backfield.
WEAKNESSES: Knight lacks the speed to be a tailback at the next level but could grow into a fullback or linebacker. M.F.
WR MARCUS LUCAS (6-4/175), Liberty (Mo.) High
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: Getting early attention from Missouri, Kansas and Kansas State
PERFORMANCE: Had six receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-6 victory over Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge
STRENGTHS: Lucas' size creates an immediate matchup problem, but he's also quick for a big guy. Showed good hands, making big catches in traffic, and also was able to go up over defenders for easy catches. Showed good explosiveness when he took a pass 24 yards into the end zone.
WEAKNESSES: Will need to add more weight to his lean frame. Also could be a little more precise with his route-running. JEREMY CRABTREE
RB ISH MACK (5-9/165), Somerville (N.J.) Immaculata
2011 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Mack rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-20 win over Voorhees (N.J.) High
STRENGTHS: Mack is fast and hits the hole quickly. He has good feet and is elusive in the open field.
WEAKNESSES: Mack is still young, so he obviously has to get stronger and add size. M.F.
LB TREY MILLARD (6-2/230), Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: Getting early attention from Missouri, Kansas State and Oklahoma.
PERFORMANCE: Made several big tackles on defense from his inside linebacker position and also started on the offensive line in a 35-6 loss to Liberty (Mo.) High.
STRENGTHS: Millard is put together like an inside linebacker should be. His legs are definitely powerful and well-defined. He has a good nose for the football. Showed good aggressiveness on the offensive side by exploding off the line of scrimmage on almost every play. When the ball got outside the tackle box on defense, that's when Millard really excelled. He was able to show good closing speed and zero in on the play.
WEAKNESSES: Wasn't as dominating as you would want from your inside linebacker. Liberty often ran right at him, and while it wasn't his fault that the defensive linemen didn't give him any support, you would have expected a few more tackles for a player who already has a Big 12 offer. J.C.
CB JIM NOEL (6-3/180), Everett (Mass.) High
COMMITTED TO: Boston College
PERFORMANCE: Noel had six tackles in a 13-10 win over Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers.
STRENGTHS: Noel has rare size for a cornerback and plays the position with good instincts at the high school level. He is long and can run, and breaks on the ball well.
WEAKNESSES: Noel probably will end up at free safety in college, as he struggles in man-to-man coverage and gives too much of a cushion. M.F.
S RODMAN NOEL (6-4/190) Everett (Mass.) High
2010 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Noel had three tackles and two interceptions in a 13-10 win over Westwood (Mass.) Xaverian Brothers.
STRENGTHS: Noel has a great frame to add weight and muscle, and looks physically older than he is. He's rangy in coverage and physical in run support, and he has excellent ball skills. He probably will grow into a linebacker.
WEAKNESSES: Noel is still raw and sometimes has trouble with misdirection and finding the football. M.F.

OT WES REA (6-4/290), Gulfport (Miss.) Harrison Central
2010 PROSPECT
COMMITTED TO: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Was effective on the offensive line while playing both sides of the ball in a loss to Ocean Springs (Miss.) High.
STRENGTHS: Rea has a terrific build and body structure. He is thick and athletic, moves well laterally and is eager to engage and get physical. He is also a standout baseball player, but could be one of the top linemen in the 2010 class out of Mississippi.
WEAKNESSES: Quickness getting to the second level. B.S.
OT NICK REDMOND (6-6/305), Gulfport (Miss.) Harrison Central
2011 PROSPECT
CONSIDERING: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Started at offensive tackle in a loss to Ocean Springs (Miss.) High.
STRENGTHS: Good size and build for only a sophomore. Also shows good feet and athleticism for a player of his size.
WEAKNESSES: Pad level suffers at time, something he will need to focus on as a taller prospect. B.S.
TE/LB BOOMER SCARBOROUGH (6-1/220), Bay St. Louis (Miss.) St. Stanislaus
2010 PROSPECT
COMMITTED TO: To be determined
PERFORMANCE: Had two touchdown receptions and one touchdown pass while playing both ways in a loss to D'Iberville (Miss.) High.
STRENGTHS: Shows good instincts and awareness on the field. Has good body control and hands as a pass receiver, and also has a nose for the ball on defense.
WEAKNESSES: He is probably not athletic enough to be a linebacker at the next level and not quite big enough to play tight end, but he could be an effective H-Back with his ability to catch the ball and his awareness out of the backfield. B.S.
