WHAT SYRACUSE IS GETTING

Rob Cassidy, Rivals Basketball Recruiting Director: Patterson has what it takes to thrive in the ACC as a rim protector and a rebounder but is still a bit of a project offensively. The good news on that front, however, is that his combination of mobility and elite size is rare and provides him with a nice upside when it comes to scoring in the post. He shoots the ball decently from the mid range as is and will become a bigger threat as he adds diversity to his moves in the low block. What Syracuse is getting is a 7-foot-2 ball of clay that will change games on defense and has athleticism to be molded into an offensive weapon down the road.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR SYRACUSE

Patterson is the first (and likely only) commitment in Syracuse's 2023 class. With Jesse Edwards likely moving on after this season, the Orange need depth at center. Freshman center Peter Carey is still working to get back to full speed after a knee injury while Mounir Hima is still growing into his role at Syracuse. Patterson gives Jim Boeheim another option with upside heading into the 2023-24 season.
