Syracuse's season came to an end in the second round of the ACC Tournament, with the Orange losing in the waning moments to Wake Forest, 77-74. Here are four takeaways from the loss.

BETTER D FROM THREE

For the second time in five days, Syracuse did a very good job defending the three against Wake Forest. While Damari Monsanto’s loss was big for Wake, the Orange held Wake to 10-for-39 and 9-for-28 from deep in the two games. That is a 28.4 percent mark from three over those two games with a 33.3 percent mark being the best half for the Deacs in any game.

TWO MUCH INSIDE

SU got destroyed inside by Wake Forest, who finished with 36 points in the paint. The Deacs only made one mid-range shot, but were 19-for-34 (55.9 percent) on two-point shots.

In sharp contrast, Syracuse was 15-for-47 on twos for a mere 31.9 percent mark and they finished with only 24 points in the paint.

MOVING FORWARD

Chris Bell and Benny Williams probably had their best combined effort of the season against Wake. Williams had ten first half points and Bell eight as they each knocked down a pair of treys in the session, but their effort in both rebounding and defense was just as noteworthy. They each had three boards, marked by Bell hustling through a couple defenders to chase down an offensive board. Williams also was feisty and aggressive from the tip, causing multiple jump balls.

Quadir Copeland got plenty of burn as the backup to Bell, including playing the final 12:51 of the game. Copeland hit all six of his free throws and grabbed five boards, as well as showing awareness and hustle on defense during his time on the floor. Unfortunately, he missed both of his shots inside.

CENTER OF ATTENTION

Wake Forest changed up their defensive plan for Jesse Edwards, doubling him immediately on almost every touch. Edwards did a pretty good job combating the tactic, committing just two turnovers in the game, and his best work was done when he either moved the ball quickly or waited and faced up to see what his options were.

Edwards got into a groove in the second half, posting ten of his 12 points in that session, including knocking down 4-of-5 shots from the field. Two of those scores came in the last six minutes of play, as Edwards got the ball in spots where he could make a quick move before the second defender arrived.
