Back in March, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons landed a commitment from defensive tackle Malachi Burby out of Cheshire Academy up in Connecticut.

Despite being committed for a couple of months now, that hasn’t stopped other schools from reaching out. One of those schools reaching out to Burby is Syracuse and they are pushing very hard for this fellow ACC commit.

“Cuse offered me a while ago,” Burby told Cuse Confidential. “It was some time after I committed to Wake Forest. Other then Cuse I’m not hearing from any other schools right now.”

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive tackle prospect has been hearing a lot from two Syracuse staff members in particular.

“I’ve been talking a ton with coaches Ward and Reynolds,” said Burby. “They tell me that I am exactly what they are looking for in a defensive tackle. They are looking for longer and taller linemen and I fit into that description. They loved my tape and want me to come and visit asap.”

At the moment Burby has no plans to visit just yet, but a trip over to Syracuse could be coming soon.

“No visits set yet,” he said. “I still have to figure that out. I know it’s a great school with both football and academics. I’ve also heard that the campus is super nice. I really like the competition they play and it’s also pretty close to home.”

Despite hearing a lot from Cuse, the Connecticut defensive tackle has been in constant contact with the Wake Forest coaches too.

“They keep telling me they are really excited about me and can’t wait for me to get down there,” said Burby. “They love what I can do and can’t wait to put me to work.”

Stay tuned right here on Cuse Confidential as we will keep you updated as much as possible as we continue to monitor Burby’s recruitment and the possible flip.
