JUCO DB Berry Buxton III commits to Syracuse
Santa Barbara (CA) City College defensive back transfer Berry Buxton III committed to Syracuse, he announced on Monday on social media. Buxton committed shortly following his official visit to Central New York.
"Being out there on my visit, it was a really nice time," Buxton said to The Juice Online. "Talking to the coaches I got to meet out there made me really excited for what I could do in the 3-3-5 defense."
Specifically, Buxton is being recruited to play cornerback.
"I'm a physical corner," Buxton said. "But at the same time, I'm also disciplined and don't rely only on my strength. I'm long and physical, but I'm also technical and smart. I would say I'm a technician."
Buxton took the trip to Syracuse with SBCC teammate Jakobie Seabourn, who also announced his commitment earlier in the day.
"Having someone with the same mentality as you going to the same level helps you," Buxton said. "We can help push each other because we play the same position."
Buxton played two seasons with the Vaqueros, and finished with 23 tackles across 11 games. In 2022, Santa Barbara CC finished 10-1 on the season with a win over Desert in the SBCC Beach Bowl.
Buxton attended Olympian High in San Diego, and location was a consideration for him being so far from home. But ultimately, the pull of playing Power 5 football was enough to draw Buxton to SU.
"The level of competition in the ACC is exactly what you need to get to the next level," Buxton said. "I'm excited to get out there once the season starts and show what I can do."
