Linebacker Lonnie Rice has decommitted from Syracuse and reopened his recruitment, he announced on Friday evening.

Rice, a JUCO linebacker from Lackawanna (PA) CC, is a Rivals three-star prospect and originally signed with Syracuse in December over offers from FIU, Charlotte, Georgia State, Morgan State and Kent State, among others.

"This was a tough and difficult decision, but I've decided to recommit from Syracuse and explore other options," he said in a statement. "My recruitment is 100% open. Thank you to all the Cuse fans."

Rice, who also played at Buffalo, had a long-standing relationship with SU. The Orange was one of the first schools to contact him in 2017 when he was in high school.

"I had other Power 5 schools reach out to me but that was only because Syracuse believed in me first," Rice said in an interview with The Juice Online following his commitment in December. "They took a chance and know I’m going prove to them that that made a great decision offering me."
