Early Wednesday morning, the Syracuse Orange landed a verbal commitment from North Carolina athlete Garrett Williams. The class of 2019 prospect is listed as a 6-foot tall and 170-pounds athlete, but is expect to play cornerback at Syracuse.

Williams chose the Orange over 14 other scholarship offers from schools such as Air Force, Army, East Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia and many more.

“I’m committed to Syracuse,” Williams told Cuse Confidential. “I really like the way the coaches treat me. I felt like I was really a priority to them, not to mention from an educational stand point it’s hard to beat out a place like Syracuse. The coaches all have a vision of success and they’re all invested into it, I just wanted to help them make that vision a reality.”

One of the people who really helped to sell the vision of playing at Syracuse was defensive ends coach Steve Stanard who was also the area recruiter for Williams.

“I’ve been talking a lot with coach (Steve) Stanard,” said Williams. “He basically told that I have all the things they want and need out of a corner and I can do a lot for them.”

Williams was on campus this past weekend and he really liked some of the things he saw and came away very impressed from the visit.

“I thought very highly of the school,” he said. “I especially liked the academic buildings. We also went through the facilities and visited throughout the campus and I got a chance to meet with a lot of the coaches individually too.”

The North Carolina cornerback might’ve just committed, but he already knows who he will try to recruit to join him at Syracuse.

“I’m definitely going to try and recruit a lot of other recruits,” said Williams. “I’m most likely going to try and get Jalen Sharpe from over in Rocky River.”

Although Williams doesn’t have any set visits to return to Syracuse, he has one date in mind for when he could come check out a game some time this fall.

“I’m hoping to come back on my bye week,” Williams mentioned. “I think they play Florida State that weekend so I will definitely try to come back for that one.”
