2024 ATH Zekai Wimberly announces decommitment from Syracuse

2024 ATH Zekai Wimberly announced his decommitment to Syracuse on Friday, he announced on social media.

It was the third recommitment of the day, following New Jersey linebackers Trashon and Travon Dye. All there hail from the Garden State.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Syracuse recruiting staff and coaches for their thoughtful consideration," Wimberly said. "However, I feel it's important to share that I have decided to de-commit from Syracuse University."

The Rivals three-star prospect went on to state his recruitment is 100 percent open.

Wimberly originally pledged to SU in June over offers Ole Miss, Towson, Temple, Maine, Monmouth and Sacred Heart, among others.

At the time, he cited the coaching staff as a major reason for joining SU's 2024 class.

"Just having multiple conversations with all the coach including Coach (Dino) Babers," Wimberly previously said of his decision to commit to The Juice Online. "This really feels like a family."

The move comes following Dino Babers' dismissal following Syracuse's loss to Georgia Tech. The Orange did, however, achieve bowl eligibility with a win over Wake Forest on Saturday.

Syracuse named Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown as its new head coach on Tuesday. He is generally regarded as one of the top recruiters in college football.
