Syracuse football has taken advantage of its proximity to Canada in recent years.

The pipeline is strong for the Orange, with names like Matthew Bergeron, Geoff Cantin, Kevin Mital, Damien Alford and Ben Labrosse among some of the Canadian players to wear Orange.

SU has started recruiting another athlete from the Great White North in 2024 Holy Trinity (ON) wide receiver Dane Hurley, who has been invited to the Orange's Elite Prospect Camp in June.

"It is very motivating to see schools giving Canadians a look and just even getting in contact with D1 schools and programs definitely helps Canadian players get on the map," Hurley said in an interview with The Juice Online. "Cuse has been pretty large in the Canadian recruiting world and sets the example that a lot good players come from."

Hurley doesn't have any visits to Syracuse planned as of now, but is working with his primary recruiter, wide receivers coach Mike Johnson, to set something up for later in the year.

"I would love to learn more and see what Cuse football is all about," Hurley said. "They have tradition of producing NFL level players and generational talent at all positions."

The 6-foot, 160-pound Hurley runs a 4.55 in the 40M, and is looking to improve in several other areas in his senior season.

"I’m looking to get bigger and improve my jump ball game as well as my route running to show coaches I can produce at the next level," Hurley said. "Hopefully back-to-back leading receiver in the Conference and help lead my team back to the State Champ Bowl."

Hurley took a visit to Pittsburgh earlier in March and is receiving attention among Canadian colleges. But he expects to hear more from American colleges having just started the NCAA recruitment process.

"(I was) playing games and 7-on-7 tournaments in the States and versing top competition (3-5 star athletes)," Hurley said. "I think I have solidified that I can hang with the ballers."
