Maryland QB names top five

Teammates are something that Greg Robinson and his staff has tried to focus on over the past couple of seasons. Last year quarterbacks coach Phil Early made a couple trips to Wicomico High School in Salisbury Maryland, to help land offensive linemen Josh White. One year later Earley is back at Wicomico to try and land their latest prospect Wayne Warren.

Warren, a 6-foot-2 190-pounder put up solid numbers as a quarterback last season. He totaled 984-yards passing, 17-touchdowns, and only three interceptions. Despite the solid numbers as his teams signal caller the Orange are recruiting him as an athlete.

"They want me as an athlete they feel that I could play offense or defense they just want me on the field."

It was March when Warren received his scholarship offer from the Orange.

With two teammates set to be on the Syracuse campus in the fall he has had time to think about what that school has going for itself.

"The staff is real cool, the staff is real friendly. Coach Earley he is a real good guy and so is Coach Robinson. Syracuse is a good environment to be in. My teammates have been there and they have told me about it." Warren said, "When I went up there for myself it is definitely a good environment and you will get a great education up there."

He also had a chance to catch a practice on his trip up.

"It was fun I got to see the team and hang out with some of the players. I got to meet the coaches it was a good experience."

The practice also stuck out for Warren who thought the quick pace of the practice fit his style.

"I would say the practices stuck out to me the most. The practices are up tempo they are always going hard and learning new things."

This summer will be a busy one for the duel-threat quarterback as he is planning on going coast to coast for unofficial visits.

Stanford and Syracuse will be the most important visits since they are the first two schools to extend offer his way.

"I would like to go to Stanford, make it up to Syracuse again, and then over to Connecticut come down through Rutgers and Maryland."

Even though the Orange and Cardinal are the only schools to offer a scholarship at this point Warren does have a top five.

"A top five yes I guess you could say I have a top five. I have Syracuse, Stanford, Virginia, Rutgers, and Maryland."

After the summer unofficial visit tour Warren will have a better idea of what his outlook will be and where he will take more visits. The Maryland prospect would also like to see a couple more offers come his way before he starts deciding on official visits.

"I would like to narrow the list down by the end of the summer so I can see if anything else comes in." Warren said "I do plan on taking all five of my official visits."
