Syracuse star running back LeQuint Allen has been suspended for the summer and fall semesters following an on-campus altercation that took place in December on South Campus, according to a report from Syracuse.com.
The suspension would mean that Allen would miss the entire 2023 football season. He has since filed a lawsuit against the University to lift his suspension.
RAPID REACTION
It’s been the busiest off-season in Dino Babers' eight years running the Syracuse football program. Two new coordinators in place, players transferring in and out turning over the roster, and a very successful start to the 2024 class recruiting cycle with the class currently ranked 37th overall.
It’s all been offset, though, by the week’s news that Allen, the freshman out of New Jersey, sued the University over what he termed was a wrongful two semester suspension issued by the school’s office of community standards for an incident that happened last December 11.
The altercation involving another student at a party near campus, took months to investigate both criminally and by SU procedures.
This saga is messy and awkward.
A current player has to sue his school to overturn the suspension and regain eligibility, a player who wants to stay with the program to boot.
Allen is not using the convenient transfer portal to make a quick escape from taking responsibility for his actions. He wants to play for Syracuse.
Next, he wants another take on exactly what happened into the early morning hours on that December day.
This story will also percolate into the new month with the next court hearing set for July 16 in Syracuse on Allen’s request to have the suspension lifted, and subsequently as Babers appears July 25 (first of three days) with the Syracuse contingent at ACC Media Day in Charlotte.
