Fast rising 2024 tight end Alex Menghi got an opportunity to get a closer look at Syracuse this weekend, and raved about the visit.

"From top to bottom, it’s a first class program," Menghi said to The Juice Online. "From Coach (Dino) Babers all the way down to the operation staff, all amazing people with amazing facilities."

Menghi plays at St. Anthony's (NY) on Long Island, and grew up knowing about the tradition at Syracuse. He and his father, Mark, have watched The Express, a movie about Syracuse star Ernie Davis' path to the 1961 Heisman Trophy.

Seeing the trophy up close was one of the highlights of the weekend, he said.

"It was great to actually see that trophy in person knowing the history behind it and all that Mr. Davis sacrificed," Menghi said. "Also since Jim Brown and I are both from Long Island, it was great to see Mr. Browns history at Cuse."

Aside from the tour of the facilities, Menghi had a chance to catch up with the Syracuse coaches and see a practice. One coach he had an extended conversation with was Orange tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile.

"We spoke X’s and O’s of the tight end position, what Cuse is looking for in a tight end, and how he sees me potentially being utilized within their system," Menghi said. "It was great just to sit in a room with him, watch him draw up plays on the white board, talk football and soak in everything he had to say."

Menghi holds offers from Stony Brook, UPenn and Maine, and he's hearing from Yale, Columbia, Holy Cross and Fordham, among others.

There's still plenty of time left in his recruitment, but Menghi has started to form a list of his top schools.

"For me, (Syracuse is) at the top," he said. "I will continue to grind, train and maximize every opportunity I have by working relentlessly to earn an opportunity to compete. Time will tell."
