Wasn't it just a month ago that we were marveling over the creative offensive game plan of the Syracuse coaches, which in turn sparked a second half rally to finally beat Pitt (and remain on course for seven wins) November 11 at Yankee Stadium?
Now on December 12, we're marveling over an entirely different Syracuse coaching staff wooing four-and five-star recruits to campus, something that simply does not happen in central New York too often (try about a 25-year gap).
Yes, that buzzing you're hearing is the sound of heads spinning in glee in Orange Nation.
Even the more casual 'Cuse fans, let alone the ardent boosters and diehards who flood message boards, realize there's an orange-flavored transformation upsetting the normal course of recruiting in the northeast. The eye-opening caliber of athletes both agreeing to take official visits to campus and change their verbal commitments from other Power 4 schools is causing "we have to pinch ourselves moments."
Syracuse is actually flipping players that verbally committed to SEC and other ACC teams, something, quite frankly, that was not going to happen if the previous coaching regime remained intact.
Fran Brown and his new staff are on a mission, and they're not going to stop until there's a roster in place they are content with talent-wise - the right mix of returning veterans, redshirts, newcomers and a few transfers sprinkled in among the 85 scholarships.
The fun is just beginning heading into the three-day early signing period that commences December 20. And once the holiday season winds down, they'll be another sprint to the late signing period date of February 7.
Get ready for quite an enjoyable ride. Syracuse football recruiting has evolved practically overnight into a force to be reckoned with both nationally and in the ACC.
