Andre Szmyt departs the Syracuse football program as the all-time leading scorer in its history, amassing 454 points in total.
Szmyt was the top scorer prior to his final season and ended his career as the most accurate field goal kicker in school history after making 81 percent of his 105 career attempts. His loss is a big one, as no one on the roster has a collegiate attempt, either field goal or extra point.
Brady Denaburg was the kickoff specialist last season for the Orange and acted as placekicker in the spring game. Ian Hawkins, who filled in as punter in 2021, is listed on the roster as both a kicker and punter.
Max von Marburg, the Australian who joined the SU program last season, had an up-and-down freshman season. Von Marburg punted 52 times last season, but finished with a gross average of 39.8 yards and a long of 55.
As a result, the coaching staff welcomed transfer Jack Stonehouse into the program from Missouri, where he had won the punting job in the middle of his freshman campaign.
Stonehouse posted a 42.4-yard average last season on 46 punts and comes from a line of punters, including his father, who played for the New York Giants, and his cousin, who is currently the Tennessee Titans’ punter.
Trebor Pena topped the team in both kickoff and punt returns last season. Pena posted an improved 27.2 yards per kickoff return on 12 attempts, including a long of 57 yards. Pena also had a 43-yard punt return while carding an 8.7-yard average on 21 returns. LeQuint Allen had two kickoff returns last season, as well.
