Syracuse lands Notre Dame transfer JJ Starling

Syracuse landed former Notre Dame guard JJ Starling according to multiple reports.

Starling, a five-star recruit in the 2022 class, and the No. 22 prospect overall, is a splashy first commitment for newly appointed head coach Red Autry, who was named SU's basketball coach on Wednesday after a 47-year run from Jim Boeheim.

Autry was Starling's primary recruiter as the then-associated head coach of the Orange before Starling selected Notre Dame.

He finished his season averaging 11.2 points and 2.8 rebounds and was named to the ACC All-Rookie Team at Notre Dame and entered the NCAA transfer portal when it opened on Monday.

He had heard from schools like Alabama, Kansas, North Carolina, UCLA and Tennessee, but ultimately decided to head back to Central New York.

Starling grew up in the shadow of Syracuse University from his hometown Baldwinsville, which is about 15 miles from campus.

Several mock drafts put Starling as a first round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
