PREDICTION
After a strong bounce-back win in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Syracuse looks to go over .500 in the ACC and stay perfect at home. The Orange hosts a Miami team that has been slumping for two weeks after their win over a then-ranked Clemson.
Syracuse was able to win for the first time in almost four years in Pittsburgh on Wednesday after a 69-58 victory. JJ Starling had his best conference game so far this season finishing with 17 points while Judah Mintz had a solid all-around performance with 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
Miami’s recent slide comes after a strong start to the season. Their veteran lineup has four players averaging double-digits in scoring. Junior forward Norchad Omier is on the verge of averaging a double-double with 17.2 and 9.6 rebounds per game.
The Hurricanes struggled shooting the ball in their recent loss at home to Florida State. They shot 7-28 from the perimeter despite almost shooting 40 percent from deep as a team on the season.
Miami was outrebounded 41-35 in the loss as they continue to lack forward depth behind Omier. Syracuse has also struggled with center depth after Naheem McLeod’s injury, which is why creating a paint presence could be a huge X-factor for either team.
The Orange trail Miami by 12 in the NET rankings (75-63), making it an enormous opportunity for both teams. With the same overall and conference record, both teams are in need of a quality ACC win.
Syracuse needs to focus on limiting the Hurricanes from the perimeter while controlling the boards. However, Miami is due for an offensive explosion with their skill players, and it will take a trip to 14-degree weather to snap them out of their slump. The Hurricanes deliver on the road, taking down the Orange 85-75.
