Once again, the Orange are looking for consistent production from their wide receiver corps.

The departed Devaughn Cooper topped the group with modest totals last season – 36 receptions, 490 yards, and three touchdowns – that stand as the best marks for any SU wideout in the last couple seasons.

Damien Alford and Trebor Pena are nearly knotted for the most receptions last season by a returning wide receiver, as Alford had 20 catches and Pena 22. Things get different for the duo from there.

Alford is a big playmaker in multiple ways, standing 6’6” and averaging a school record 20 yards per catch in his career, including 21.5 yards per grab last season. His two scores last season covered 47 yards against Connecticut and 58 yards at Boston College and all four of his career scores have covered a minimum of 45 yards. Alford could be a big boon for the Syracuse offense if he can become a more frequent contributor.

Pena made his biggest impression at receiver last year, turning his 22 receptions into 203 yards. While his statistical results have been more modest, Pena does have big-play ability, as evidenced by his 62-yard touchdown catch against Clemson in 2021 and a 98-yard touchdown on a kickoff return against North Carolina State in 2020.

D’Marcus Adams, Umari Hatcher, and Isaiah Jones were all part-time contributors to the wide receiver group last season. Adams led the quartet by appearing in nine games and catching six passes, including two going for scores, and is another deep target for the Orange, as four of his receptions last year gained at least 30 yards.

Hatcher had three grabs for 42 yards while appearing in eight games while Jones had four catches for 60 yards before his season ended after suffering an injury against Purdue in the season’s third game.
