2025 defensive back Javon Lawrence picked up his first college offer from Syracuse last week, and wasted no time acting on it, committing to Syracuse on Friday evening, he announced on social media.
Lawrence cited the coaching staff as a top factor for why he's coming to Syracuse.
"Coach Fran and coach (Emmanuel) Marc offered me the opportunity of a life time to go to a prestigious university to further my education while continuing to play the game I love," Lawrence said. "I had to commit to them."
Another factor for him was staying near home. North Rockland High in Thiells, NY is about a three hour drive to Syracuse.
"This is something I have dreamed about since I was young," Lawrence said. "To be able to play at the highest level and now to be able to do that in my home state at the biggest university is a blessing and something I don't take lightly."
He becomes the second commit of the 2025 class, joining four-star defensive end Sharlandiin Strange.
Lawerence led his North Rockland team to a 7-3 record in 2023, and finished with 30 tackles and 4 passes defended. He also appeared as wide receiver, but SU is recruiting him on the defensive side of the ball.
Said Lawrence in a previous interview: "I’m a physical DB with very quick speed and a long reach that loves to hit."
