Former Syracuse star and 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement on Monday.

In his lone season at Syracuse (2002-23), Anthony led the Orange to its only National Championship, averaging 22.2 ppg and 10.0 rpg. He was taken with the No. 3 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, and went on to play 19 seasons in the NBA.

Anthony, 38, finishes his career with a scoring title, 28,289 career points (ninth all-time) across six NBA teams (Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers).

Anthony also represented Team USA in Olympic competition, and was a four-time medalist. Team USA won bronze in 2004, and gold in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Anthony’s NBA career will be defined by his stints with two franchises: The Denver Nuggets (2003-2011) and the New York Knicks (2011-2017). In 2009, Anthony led the Nuggets to the NBA’s Western Conference Finals, one of seven playoff appearances he made in Denver.

He was the centerpiece of a trade in the 2011 season which sent him to the Knicks. He led New York to three playoff appearances, but was also criticized for only producing one playoff series win during his time there.

He finishes with career averages of 22.5 ppg and 6.2 rpg. Anthony didn't play in the 2022-23 season, and his final season came with the Lakers in 2021-22, where he averaged 13.3 ppg in 26.0 mpg.

"Now the time has come for me to say goodbye," Anthony said in a video posted on his Twitter account. "Basketball was my outlet. My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented with pride and the fans that supported me along the way. I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthony."
