Syracuse Recruiting Roundup: June 12, 2023

We're in full swing with official visit season in college football, and Syracuse had a very busy week with commitments and offers coming off its 2023 Elite Prospect Camp.

Let's take a look back at what was another week jam packed with news from the recruiting world.

2024 ATH Zekai Wimberly committed to Syracuse on Saturday. Wimberly is one of the top New Jersey prospects in this cycle, and committed to SU over offers Ole Miss, Towson, Temple, Maine, Monmouth and Sacred Heart, among others. Our Charles Kang caught up with Wimberly after his commitment.

Wimberly wasn't the only one to commit over the weekend. Michigan City (IN) running back Jaden Hart also pledged to the Orange. The Rivals three-star prospect picked the Orange over offers from Duke, Kentucky, Boston College and Minnesota, among others. Read what he had to say to our Charles Kang about his commitment.

The Orange also received a commitment from Gonzaga (DC) High defensive lineman David McMorris on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2, 255-pound prospect selected the Orange from an offer sheet of over two dozen schools including West Virginia, Wake Forst, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Boston College. Our Charles Kang caught up with him shortly after the commitment.

2024 Oklahoma quarterback Andy Bass is one of Syracuse's top quarterback targets, and the signal caller got a closer look the Orange over the weekend on an OV. Read the full story about his official visit and timeline for a decision from our Charles Kang.

2024 safety Michael Matthews-Canty got a closer look at Syracuse this weekend on an official visit. He spoke to our Charles Kang after the visit about how it went and his announcement timeline.

Alliance (OH) High quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg received an offer from Syracuse last weekend and also locked in an official visit for the weekend of June 16. He chatted with our Charles Kang about both pieces of news.

Aside from commitments, athletes are starting to get offers based on their Elite Camp performances. 2024 ATH Salvatore Capria impressed the coaches at camp, and now holds a PWO offer from the Orange. Our Charles Kang spoke with Capria about his offer.

2026 defensive back Ya'Heem Smith attended Syracuse's Elite Camp on June 4, and five days later, he received his first collegiate offer from the Orange. He spoke with our Charles Kang about the offer.

2024 offensive lineman Max Wang also attended SU's Elite Camp, and came away with a preferred walk-on offer. His offer list includes Marshall, Howard, Texas State, Eastern Kentucky, Lamar, Columbia and Tarleton. Read what he had to say to our Charles Kang about his offer.

In May, 2026 wide receiver BJ Garrett, received an offer from Syracuse, and on June 4, he got a closer look at the program at Syracuse's Elite Camp. He is the teammate of Syracuse commit Tristen Graham, and spoke to our Charles Kang about it.

2027 defensive back Rico Jackson is no stranger to the Orange. His father, Tanard, graduated from Syracuse in 2007 and went on to star for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins. Syracuse offered him in May, and he spoke with our Charles Kang about it.

2024 ATH Kade Caton holds more than a dozen offers, including UNLV, North Texas, Maine, San Diego State and Arkansas State, among others. He added to that list last week, picking up a Power 5 offer from Syracuse. Read more about what he thought of Syracuse's offer from our Charles Kang.
